Discipline VS. Motivation: The Key Difference

STUDY VS. INSPIRATION

How to Tell the Difference Between Discipline and Motivation. I think that this conversation has helped us start to talk about what the difference is between discipline and motivation. It’s very hard for a lot of new players to understand this, and I’ve seen that a lot of them depend on this huge emotional effect we call motivation.

SENSE OF INSPIRATION THAT CHANGES

The feeling of motivation changes all the time, and if you depend on it, you won’t get anywhere on this roller coaster. On the other hand, discipline means always being able to do what needs to be done, no matter how you feel about it.

THE PROBLEM WITH SELF-IMPOSED DISCIPLINE

When I was younger, I was one of those players who thought it was as easy as saying, “Let me do it myself.” In the long run, what did it mean?

MUSCLE FOR DISCIPLINE

Getting more disciplined is like working out your muscles. When you train it, it gets stronger, and when you don’t, it drops in strength. It is important to keep this muscle strong and grow it over time.

WHAT EXPLOITATIVE DISCIPLINE LOOKS LIKE

The thing that happened to my friend shows that discipline can fade over time if it is not kept up. His discipline skills got weak over time because he didn’t use them or train them.

DISCIPLINE VS. NOTES ON THE BOARD

It won’t work just because you tell yourself to be disciplined or use Post-it notes with simple words on them. Discipline isn’t just words; it’s actions that are always the same.

STICK TO THE RULES AND KOBE BRYANT

Kobe Bryant might put Post-it notes on his mirror to remind himself every day to go to the gym. Not at all. His discipline skills are strong and well-developed, so this is easy for him to do.

IN THE END

To sum up, getting good at something takes a long time and a lot of work. It needs commitment, hard work, and most of all, discipline. Don’t let your motivation swings get you down. Instead, work on being determined to do what you need to do every day. If you follow through with discipline, you will succeed. It’s not a matter of if you will, but when.
